Dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis (OA) or other inflammatory joint conditions may be prescribed Metacam (Meloxicam) Oral Suspension. Metacam is an NSAID that works to alleviate joint pain and inflammation, resulting in better mobility and improved quality of life. Metacam comes in a liquid form with a palatable honey flavor, and it is administered easily using the included syringe. Depending on your pet's condition and underlying cause of their OA, Metacam may be combined with other treatment methods, such as healthy lifestyle changes and/or joint care supplements.How it Works
Metacam works by reducing the hormones in a dog's body that can lead to inflammation and pain from arthritis due to age.
Special Precautions
The safe use of METACAM® (meloxicam oral suspension) in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Warnings: Not for use in humans. Keep this and all medications out of reach of children. Consult a physician in case of accidental ingestion by humans. For oral use in dogs only. Contraindication: Dogs with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam should not receive METACAM® (meloxicam oral suspension). Do not use METACAM Oral Suspension in cats. Acute renal failure and death have been associated with the use of meloxicam in cats.

Side Effects
METACAM® (meloxicam oral suspension) is for oral use in dogs only. Repeated use of meloxicam in cats has been associated with acute renal failure and death. Do not administer oral meloxicam to cats. See Contraindications, Warnings, and Precautions for detailed information.
Storage
Store at controlled room temperature, 68-77°F (20-25°C). Excursions permitted between 59° and 86°F (15° and 30°C).
Tips
Although arthritis cannot be cured, its symptoms can be treated and reduced. A combination of exercise, healthy diet, proper weight, joint care supplements, and an NSAID like Metacam can improve your dog's quality of life.

Meloxicam. The inactive ingredients in MOBIC tablets include colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium citrate dihydrate, crospovidone, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, povidone, and crospovidone.
Your veterinarian will carefully consider the potential benefits and risk of METACAM® (meloxicam oral suspension) and other treatment options before deciding to use METACAM. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual response. METACAM should be administered initially at 0.09 mg/lb. (0.2 mg/kg) body weight only on the first day of treatment. For all treatments after day 1, METACAM should be administered once daily at a dose of 0.045 mg/lb. (0.1 mg/kg). The syringe is calibrated to deliver the daily oral maintenance dose in pounds. Please note: Using the weight of your dog, and noting the dose concentration of the METACAM, use the full prescribing information to determine how to draw up the dose (syringe or dropper) and administer the dose (directly into the mouth or mixed in with the food).
