Once these little companies get bought out by big conglomerates...the quality suffers. They changed to chickpeas...I'm sure as a cost savings..

Our dog is allergic to beef, pork and chicken and flax. We've been happily buying the Ltd Ingredient Salmon from PetCo. We won't be able to use The Merrick Ltd Salmon now that it contains flax. Flax has a very limited availability of Omega 3 anyway. It is not necessary to have flax in a Salmon kibble!

After a few years of research and trying 8 different brands of dog food… I believe we finally found one that works! I started using Merrick Dog Limited Ingredient Diet Grain Free, Salmon + Sweet Potato because one of my Golden Retrievers (male) has allergic reactions to chicken/beef proteins causing sensitive /irritated skin (hotspots) and digestive issues. We still have to give him Benadryl every day.. but.. the allergic episodes have decreased dramatically. We have tried all kinds of brands with different proteins and contents.. but we were unsuccessful. I would like to point out…that there are a lot of Dog food manufactures out there that add “questionable ingredients” to their dog foods, in my opinion…. would not be acceptable for human/dog consumption. With Merrick, I found that the ingredients and analysis clear & informative, but it was more of a relief to stabilize my dog’s digestive routine, which was extremely important. Both of my Golden Retriever’s (4.5 yrs male and Female) are very happy with the Merrick Brand Dog Food and treats. They are eating The Limited Ingredient Diet Grain Free, Salmon & Sweet Potato and Grain Free Healthy weight recipe. My dog loves the food selections. Easily transitions from flavor to flavor and I like the natural basis of the foods.
