Q: I have a senior donkey who needs to up his weight this winter. Because he is not the full size of a horse (around 350-400)—what should the safe feeding amount be in order to not do him more harm than good? Thanks!
9 months ago1 Answer
- A: Donkeys are extremely efficient foragers and are prone to health problems from calorie-dense foods. For your 350–400 lb senior donkey, consider a feed plan involving soaked beet pulp or a specialized "laminitic-safe" pellet, along with other supportive care measures. Always consult with a veterinarian to develop a tailored diet before introducing any new supplement.9 months agoHelpful?

Q: Feed to a alpaca? He is 19 years now. Seems to drop weight more in winter. Also he has never pooped pellets, always blups. Thought many the rice might work, but am asking first.
2 years ago1 Answer
- A: Hi Terri F, According to the vendor: Max E Glo Pellets are not labeled for use with alpacas, only for horses, and we cannot advise on using this product with alpacas. For horses, feeding higher energy supplements such as Max E Glo with crude fat min 18% can help maintain body condition. For horses with loose stools, some may benefit from the fiber from the rice bran, but others may continue to struggle with loose stools from an increase of fat in their diet. If you are concerned about your pet’s stool condition we recommend consulting your veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical concerns.2 years agoHelpful?

Works well...IF your horse will eat it!
This is a high-quality supplement to your horse's feed, and it is wonderful for helping hard keepers gain weight without risking an overload of carbohydrates and sugars which can contribute to laminitis, gut flora imbalances, and other problems. The fats in this feed help your horse's coat really shine. If your horse is a picky eater like mine is, however, good luck getting your horse to eat this. My horse wouldn't touch it. Even a quarter of a cup added to his usual 5 pounds of Nutrena was enough to make him turn up his nose.

One of my daily feed staples in my barn

I have been using these as part of a mash feed plan for older horses. I am happy with it and will continue to use it. You have to hide it from the chickens though they literally will pick it out of the feed pans.

Shine for miles— Great healthy top dressing
2 months ago
The shine on my horses coats showed a big improvement; wanted a low sugar alternative as my mares family tree have a history of laminitis in their 20s. Great alternative to Triple Crown Supplement and at 50-lbs per bag it lasts a while - we use 1-c w AM & PM feedings as a top dressing over Triple Crown Complete. My mares eat it all up! A+
