KBS RustBlast in the quart size is a water based rust remover and metal etch that dissolves rust, corrosion, and metal oxides, then leaves a zinc phosphate base coat that helps paint grip. It handles rust removal, etching, and pre paint prep in one step on tractor frames, implements, trailers, truck chassis, gates, fuel tanks, and shop tools. Because it is a liquid, RustBlast flows into pitting, weld seams, boxed sections, and tight corners that a wire wheel or blaster cannot reach. Apply it full strength by spray bottle, brush, roller, or backpack sprayer and keep the metal wet for the full dwell time, then rinse with water and let it dry. RustBlast is Step 2 of the KBS 3 Step Rust Prevention System, between KBS Klean and RustSeal, and it also preps metal for most other paints. Coat the treated metal within 7 days. Buy it in the same size as your RustSeal, so this size pairs with a quart of RustSeal.Directions: clean the metal first with KBS Klean and scrape off loose, flaking rust and scale. Apply RustBlast full strength between 55 and 90 degrees F. Keep the surface wet the whole time, re applying as needed: at least 30 minutes on smooth or lightly rusted steel, 40 to 60 minutes on moderate rust, and 1 to 2 hours on heavy rust. Aluminum, brass, and copper need only 10 to 20 minutes. Do not let it dry on the surface. Rinse thoroughly with water before it dries, which neutralizes the acid and avoids a heavy zinc phosphate buildup, then let the metal dry completely. A light white powder left behind is zinc phosphate and helps adhesion. RustBlast is acidic and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear chemical resistant gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing. Lay a tarp down when rinsing on a driveway, since the runoff can stain concrete.
