Itraconazole is a synthetic oral antifungal medication used to treat systemic and skin infections. It is primarily effective against yeast and fungal organisms, which are common causes of conditions like toenail infections, ringworm (dermatophytes), and skin infections. Itraconazole is also indicated for the treatment of serious fungal infections such as cryptococcosis and blastomycosis. Itraconazole capsules are sold individually.How it Works

Itraconazole stops enzymes responsible for the production of ergosterol which is a crucial component of the cell wall of fungus. By rendering the fungus structurally inadequate, it leads to its leakage and death.

Special Precautions

• This medication should be kept from animals and children.
• If your pet is pregnant, do not administer Itraconazole to them.
• For dogs with liver disease, use extra caution for administration.

Dogs may begin to feel, act, or look better, but you should still complete the treatment course because this medication is used to treat fungal infections. A longer therapy course is required for fungal infections because they are shown to be more resistant than bacterial infection and therefore require an extended course of therapy. Relapse risk is increased when the prescription is not consumed in its entirety.
