Q: What diameter is the shaft? What axial load (in the direction of the shaft's axis) can the eye withstand before it begins to deform? I have the same questions for the 48" long Earth Anchor also.

1 Answer
  • A: Shaft diameter is 0.56". The axial load can withstand is 700lbs. The load is the same for the 48" auger but the shaft diameter is 0.625".

Q: What is the wind load this can carry? I don't see any specs and need them for approval on a shed that I tied down.

1 Answer
  • A: Due to all the variables (i.e. depth of the anchor, type of soil, sand, moisture content etc.) this is not something that can be answered with any certainty.

does not "screw" into the ground at all

These augers are not designed well at the end to dig/screw into the ground. Turned, pressed down at same time and turned, hammered in with sledge, etc. Finally used a shovel to dig a hole and then fill in with concrete around it. Attached to storage shed/kennel with toggle bolts and washers. I still have 4 more to do. Because of the concrete work required it is taking longer than I had planned.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Disk shape quality control could be better

I've bought several of these to anchor end posts in my vineyard, and I plan to buy more. However, about 1/4 of those I've bought require me to fix the auger-disk head shape before they will screw into the ground. The ones that are shaped right work great, though.
