I purchased this earth auger to allow me to a put tension on a rope to take down a Crape Myrtle tree. I had the auger screwed in all the way to the attachment ring. When tension was applied with a come along, the auger shaft bent and lifted, but didn't come out of the ground. The tension on the rope at the top of the tree. apparently was adequate to direct the drop of the tree in the intended direction when it was cut. However, in the future I would purchase something with more thickness and more length to do the same job. I have no confidence that this auger will hold securely and certainly would not recommend it to others, who might put a greater load on it, to the point it pulled out of the ground, which could be catastrophic.
