    G4185 Horizontal Boring Machine Review

I am lucky i had seen/ used one of these machines in the past because otherwise i probably wouldn't have purchased it... if you have a production setting where you repeatedly drill holes- this machine will be your best friend. That being said, be aware of the following... you must purchase a spindle head (example the G5953) in addition to this machine...it does not include a usable spindle/ chuck/ or colett. The user manual is "fair" but far from "good". An example of its failure would be - nowhere does the manual talk about the pneumatic speed adjustment, nope nada nowhere... you just have to randomly see a fairly hidden knob and think- "i wonder if that does something?" The Machine is a tank...very solid/ heavy, durable and looks to be well built. I feel like every part of it is much stronger/ more powerful than it needs to be... You will likely need to modify the piston that plunges down to hold material as it is plastic and has the friction coefficient of about zero...its plenty powerful in the downward force however- be carful... I added a very dense rubber pad to the bottom and it will probably hold anything now. Be ready to search for drill bits to fit the threaded spindle as they are not easy to find and once you find them it becomes another task to get them in usable/ variable lengths. I must add that the people on the tech support side of Grizzly should all be given gold stars...very nice people, easy to work with and want to actually help you resolve your issues.
