Q: How come my mower won’t start with a fully charged battery

1 Answer
  • Greenworks Tools
A: Hi Tina, a fully charged battery is a great start, but if the mower is not turning on there are a few common things to check that can prevent startup. First, make sure the battery is fully seated and locked into place, if it is not clicked in securely, the mower will not receive power. Next, check that the safety key (if your model uses one) is inserted properly, as the mower will not start without it. For starting, press and hold the start button, then pull the safety handle (bail) toward the handlebar at the same time, both steps need to happen together for the motor to engage. It is also a good idea to inspect the battery terminals and mower contacts to ensure they are clean and free of debris or moisture. If the mower was recently used or stored in a hot or cold environment, allow both the battery and unit to return to normal temperature before trying again, as built-in protection systems can temporarily prevent operation. Lastly, check underneath the mower (with the battery removed) to make sure the blade area is clear of any grass buildup or obstructions, as this can trigger a safety shutdown. For a step-by-step setup, this Greenworks Tools video may help (https://youtu.be/vnNhjmgEX3U). If you have gone through these steps and the mower still will notstart, the issue may require further inspection. We recommend reaching out to customer support for assistance they can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

Q: Can I run the 60v or 80v Battery's with the mower ?

1 Answer
  • Greenworks Tools
A: Hi BOB the mower. Thank you for your interest. No. Greenworks batteries are interchangeable among products within that same voltage platform. This mean a 40V mower would require a 40V battery, any other voltage will not operate the unit. This unit can use any amp-hour sized Greenworks 40V battery. We hope this information helped!

Hello Rockwell. We are sorry to hear about the difficulty you are encountering with removing the battery. Our batteries are designed with a secure fit to prevent accidental dislodgement during operation, so a firm grip is required when removing them. Before seating the battery in its compartment, please ensure the rails or tracks on both the battery and the mower are free of dirt or debris, as buildup can restrict movement. To remove the battery, press and hold the battery release latch firmly, stabilize the mower with one hand, and pull the battery pack straight out with a steady, firm motion. For a visual demonstration, you can refer to the Greenworks support video available on the Greenworks Tools YouTube channel, which shows proper battery removal and installation techniques for compatible models. If the battery continues to feel stuck beyond normal resistance, we recommend contacting Customer Success so we can further assist. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

Hello Josh77. Thank you for sharing your experience. If the mower is leaving strips of uncut grass, a few adjustments may help improve cut performance. First, check that the blade is sharp and properly installed, as a dull or improperly seated blade can miss grass. It is also helpful to slightly overlap each mowing pass and vary your mowing pattern to ensure even coverage. If the grass is taller or thicker, raising the deck height and mowing more frequently (cutting no more than one-third of the grass height at a time) can reduce uneven results. Make sure the underside of the deck is clean, as buildup can impact airflow and cutting performance. Regarding the charger, inconsistent charging can sometimes be related to battery temperature, dirty contacts, or connection issues. Try charging in a moderate indoor environment, ensure the battery is fully seated in the charger, and inspect both the battery and charger terminals for debris. If the charger indicator lights are not behaving normally, testing with another compatible battery (if available) can help isolate whether the issue is with the charger or battery. If concerns continue, reaching out to Greenworks Success team with your model details can help review available service options. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

Great mower for the price

I’m quite pleased with my purchase. Lightweight, starts right up, great battery life and easy to adjust. Only gave 4 stars as the turning radius is not that great, at least compared to my last mower. Overall I’m very happy with this mower, and the price.

Yes, I recommend this product.
