Q: How come my mower won’t start with a fully charged battery

1 Answer
  • Greenworks Tools
A: Hi Tina, a fully charged battery is a great start, but if the mower is not turning on there are a few common things to check that can prevent startup. First, make sure the battery is fully seated and locked into place, if it is not clicked in securely, the mower will not receive power. Next, check that the safety key (if your model uses one) is inserted properly, as the mower will not start without it. For starting, press and hold the start button, then pull the safety handle (bail) toward the handlebar at the same time, both steps need to happen together for the motor to engage. It is also a good idea to inspect the battery terminals and mower contacts to ensure they are clean and free of debris or moisture. If the mower was recently used or stored in a hot or cold environment, allow both the battery and unit to return to normal temperature before trying again, as built-in protection systems can temporarily prevent operation. Lastly, check underneath the mower (with the battery removed) to make sure the blade area is clear of any grass buildup or obstructions, as this can trigger a safety shutdown. For a step-by-step setup, this Greenworks Tools video may help (https://youtu.be/vnNhjmgEX3U). If you have gone through these steps and the mower still will notstart, the issue may require further inspection. We recommend reaching out to customer support for assistance they can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.

Q: Can I run the 60v or 80v Battery's with the mower ?

1 Answer
  • Greenworks Tools
A: Hi BOB the mower. Thank you for your interest. No. Greenworks batteries are interchangeable among products within that same voltage platform. This mean a 40V mower would require a 40V battery, any other voltage will not operate the unit. This unit can use any amp-hour sized Greenworks 40V battery. We hope this information helped!

Buy greenworks but not this mower.

This only has the grass catcher, not a side grass dispenser. That causes it to clog easily if the grass is high at all. Greenworks is a good mower, but this one is not the one to buy.

Hello Rhonda. Thank you for your candid review and for continuing to trust Greenworks for your lawn care needs. We appreciate your feedback regarding the 16-inch 40V G-MAX mower's 2-in-1 design, which offers bagging and mulching. We understand how frustrating it can be when grass clippings clog the deck during tougher jobs. When mowing taller or damp grass without a side discharge option, a few operation adjustments can help prevent clogging and keep the motor running smoothly. We recommend raising the cutting height to take off only the top third of the grass blade at a time, making a second pass at a lower setting if a shorter cut is desired. Mowing at a slightly slower walking pace gives the mulching blade and deck airflow enough time to process and push clippings cleanly into the grass catcher. Additionally, ensuring the underside of the deck is clean and completely free of dried buildup before starting will maximize airflow and significantly reduce clogs. For helpful maintenance tips and visual guides on optimizing your mower's cutting performance, please feel free to visit the Greenworks YouTube channel. If you continue to experience clogging issues or need assistance finding a model that better fits your specific yard needs, please reach out directly to the Greenworks Customer Success Team, we are always here to help ensure you get the best possible results! Excellent Greenworks Mower.

I recently bought the Greenworks 40-volt, 16-inch cordless battery push mower, and I’m very happy with it. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and cuts evenly. I love the convenience of no cords, and the battery performed well so far. It’s easy to use and has exceeded my expectations. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, lightweight cordless mower.

Almost impossible to get the lawnmower battery out, and the blade does not cut the grass as complete or “clean” as I would expect.

Hello Rockwell. We are sorry to hear about the difficulty you are encountering with removing the battery. Our batteries are designed with a secure fit to prevent accidental dislodgement during operation, so a firm grip is required when removing them. Before seating the battery in its compartment, please ensure the rails or tracks on both the battery and the mower are free of dirt or debris, as buildup can restrict movement. To remove the battery, press and hold the battery release latch firmly, stabilize the mower with one hand, and pull the battery pack straight out with a steady, firm motion. For a visual demonstration, you can refer to the Greenworks support video available on the Greenworks Tools YouTube channel, which shows proper battery removal and installation techniques for compatible models. If the battery continues to feel stuck beyond normal resistance, we recommend contacting Customer Success so we can further assist. They can be reached either using the online chat function, on Greenworks Tools page, or by calling 1-888-909-6757.
