A: Thank you for reaching out. Burning the stump is an important part of the process to accelerate decomposition. Without that step, this product will not yield full results.

Q: Is it dog friendly

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! No, Gordon's 1 lb. Stump Remover is not dog friendly in its raw state, as it consists of 99% pure potassium nitrate granules which can cause severe digestive tract irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea if licked or swallowed. To keep your pets completely safe, you must seal the granules inside the stump by plugging the drilled holes with wooden dowels or covering the entire stump with a heavy tarp so curious dogs cannot dig at or ingest the chemical.

Q: How many stumps can it kill

1 Answer
  • Product Specialist
A: Thank you for your question. This depends on the size of the stumps. For stumps wider than 18 inches, drill 2, 3, or more sets of vertical and slanting holes into the stump. Pour 4 to 6 ounces Gordon’s Stump Remover into each hole. Please note this product is NOT a stump killer; it is a stump remover. It helps to decompose an already dead stump.

Q: Will this hurt my other trees within ten feet from stump?

1 Answer
  • A: No, Gordon's 1 lb. Stump Remover will not hurt your nearby trees when used as directed. Unlike herbicides that kill living plants, this product is an accelerator that speeds up the natural decomposition of dead wood.

Works Great

Worked as described. Drilled 3 holes, filled to the top. 5 weeks latter, poured kerosene and lit. Burned all the way to the tips of the roots. Product not available anywhere else.

What the ad doesn't tell you -

Incomplete directions on Tractor Supply website. Only after reading the fine print on the container did I find out that I am supposed to DRILL 1" holes into the tree stump. Then I'm supposed to pour KEROSENE into those holes, let it soak, apply the chemical powder, then LIGHT IT ON FIRE! NO WAY!

Good stuff! Not reformulated like other brands

Its good stuff. A lot of stump removers have reformulated to sodium metabisulfite which decomposes dtjmps slower via a different reaction. This is good ol potassium nitrate. Which provids a couple different options to get rid of the stump
