Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Well For Our Ducks We used this bowl for our 4 ducks this past winter as a waterer and it was deep enough that they could clean their bills. It worked perfectly to keep the water from freezing and made our lives a whole lot easier.

What is the amp / watt rating. I would like to run this off solar power and need the electrical specifications to size the solar setup correctly.

Asked by: adlund
60 watts and 0.5 amps

Bought this item to keep water from freezing solid for chickens. I have tried the calibration process for the thermostat and still get a layer of ice on top of the water and the water is always cold when I feel it. Do I need to return my item?

Asked by: Guns0812
The water will be cold when touching it as it only reaches maybe 50 degrees. If you live anywhere in the mid-west where the temperatures have been below zero, you probably will get a layer of ice on the top for a little while. This is because the severe wind chills will steal the heat off the surface of the water very fast. Because the bowl has a thermostat inside of it, it will turn on and off automatically. A little icing may happen during the "off" cycle in very cold temperatures, particularly in the beginning.

I have a rabbit and was wondering if this bowl would work for him? Because rabbits are known for flipping their bowl over

Asked by: Rabbitlover09
You could. However, it's pretty large and even if they didn't tip it over, they would make quite a mess. I would recommend our Heated Water Bottle that's for Rabbits. It's carried in the Tractor Supply stores in the rabbit aisle.

No grounding prong? For an exterior electrical product that holds water? Somehow this passed U.S. electrical code? Seriously?!

Asked by: FerdilVerdil
Yes it did as it is double insulated on the inside.

Can you place the bowl on a wood table?

Asked by: A girl and her pups
Sure. Any hard flat surface.

What temp. Do they get to keep from freezing

Asked by: Jim Tuck
The heater is activated at 35 degrees, and will shut off at 45 degrees.

It is below  23 degrees every day, is it dangerous for it to run constantly?

Asked by: Helping the cats
Not at all. It has a thermostat inside that will turn it on and off automatically. Just keep it filled with water, plug it into a GFCI outlet, and let the cats enjoy unfrozen water.

Would you provide some general information as to electric costs or consumption for the Ottumwa Iowa area or a similar area? If you would reply to me at my email address please. Thank you.

Asked by: Robia
This model is 60 watts of power or 0.06 kilowatts. To calculate usage cost, multiply kilowatts x your electrical cost/kwh and then multiply times number of hours in use per day. For example, if this ran 12 hours/day, and your electrical cost was $.10/kwh, then usage cost would be 0.06 x $.10 x 12 = $.07/day
