Good feeder but has a flaw

The slant bars work good to keep cows out of the ring but the design has a flaw that the manufacturer photo doesn't show. At the end of each half of the ring the bar is spaced so that smaller cattle can step in. This space is created by the slant bar angling away from the down tube where the two halves are bolted together. You can either weld in a half bar or use a piece of threaded rod to replace the center bolt. Slide a piece of 1/2" pvc pipe over the end of the rod if you are concerned about your animals rubbing against it. Other than that all of the stock on hand locally had spots where the pieces have rubbed together during transit and chipped off the paint. So buy a can of red equipment spray paint inside to touch up the spots so they don't rust. I went ahead and sprayed the bolts as well. The welds all seemed strong and the vertical bars at the bottom do a fine job of keeping the hay inside the ring.

Heavy duty hay ring

This is a very sturdy and heavy hay ring. Unfortunately it does not keep smaller calves out and there is a lot of wasted hay around the ring. Have a few of these and like how durable they are but again wasted hay and will not keep small calves out.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not heavy duty!

These are not heavy duty enough. My hereford cows have broken the circular rings and break the slant bars out in one season. Increase the metal thickess by 5-10%. Bottom side needs resigned so calves can’t get their head stuck.
