Big, huge! Just go slow!

Just picked up my new auger. I was a pro driller for a few years installing cell and data towers for phone and data companies. I learned a LOT about augers. The largest hole was 12 feet in diameter by 96 feet deep. It has some quality to it, but, there's a few things to look at. The thinkness of the flights is good (1/2 to 9/16 thick). Thickness of the cutting teeth is ok. The mounting collar is too thin for a 24" auger (1/4 inch). I will be making modifications to beef it up. In pictures 1 and 2, you' ll see the thickness of the collar and the metal I will weld on over the pin holes. In picture 4, you'll see the guides that I'll weld under the flights. to prevent wabble and distortion of the hole. This will also cut down the wearing on the auger. Tips for drilling: NEVER cork screw the auger! The auger WILL FAIL. Let the teeth do the cutting and go slow. If your tractor has a loader bucket, put the edge on the ground and use it to move the tractor front or back to help drill the hole straigh while going down with the auger. Auger is good quality and digs right down into the ground. Have dug 20 holes so far and has not had any issues at all.

The auger itself, what's excellent? The service I received helping me order. The auger was below 1 star After coming into a store and having a tractor supply employee helped me order the auger on their computer and waiting 2 weeks. They never processed the order after charging my car. I had to reorder the auger off the internet. Get charged again for it and wait. An additional 3 weeks For it to come, which put my project behind almost a month
