Q: We bought this to keep a popup camper battery charged. We have now heard that controller needs to be kept at room temperature and is not water proof -- useless for our needs. Can we remove the current controller and add one that is weather-resistant?

You must ensure the battery's voltage is above 12, this will ensure that the charge controller recognizes the battery and allows the solar panel to charge the battery. The time it will take to charge battery is dependent on a number of factors,the weather and the storage capacity of your battery. Without this information it is impossible to determine how long the solar panel will take to charge the battery.2 years agoHelpful?

I’ve got this connected to a 12 volt marine battery which is connected to a 12 volt electric fence around my home garden. This solar panel’s controller will flip to ‘fully charged’ on sunny days and ‘charging’ in the morning and cloudy days. I’d say it’s perfect for what I’m using it for.

The kit comes with a panel with an SAE connector, yet the charge controller has bare wires with no SAE connection. They included as set of SAE alligator clips, but if you connect that to the panel with no controller you will over charge your batteries. The only way to make this work is by buying another SAE connector, cutting, and splicing the wires together with either wire nuts (not safe) or buying crimp fittings and shrink tube on top of the SAE connector.
This kit is absolute junk !!!!
No, I do not recommend this product.
