- A: The Behlen Country 5.5 Ga. Small Animal Waterer does require electric supply to the 75 watt infrared heat pad that keeps the water trough from freezing. When installing, we would recommend using an earth tube, or multiple earth tubes, to surround the water line coming up from the ground and into the waterer.
