Q: Can this be in a pasture in extreme winter cold conditions?
a year ago1 Answer
- A: Hello and thank you for your question. The Behlen Country Automatic Stall Waterer is designed to be placed inside of a barn/stall and are not insulated for extreme outside temperatures, such as what may be experienced in a pasture. For extreme weather performance in pastures, we recommend our Behlen Country Extreme Weather waterer, that is manufactured with thicker insulation and is designed to be electrically wired for heating the drinking basin and supply line. This item can be found at: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/behlen-country-extreme-weather-waterer-1171278. Q: Easiest way to clean and disinfect?
2 years ago1 Answer
- A: There is a drain plug in the trough that you can remove. This will drain the water. We recommend not using any harsh chemicals to clean the trough. You are able to use a scrubbing device and use a non-harmful solution, such as dawn dish soap or a lemon-baking soda mix to clean and disinfect.. Then rinse and put the plug back in.2 years agoHelpful?
Q: Could this product run off a solar panel?
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: The Heated Stall Waterer, item # 54140358S, needs a standard AC 120 power source. The heating element is a 100 watt heat pad that draws about .01 amp. The Solar panel must be able to produce this power at a steady, accurate, and continuous source. Any power fluctuation can be harmful to the heating pad, causing it to burn out or cause the heating element to malfunction and potentially melt the poly waterer.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: Can I buy these without the heat option?
5 years ago1 Answer
- A: Behlen Country does offer the Automatic Stall Waterer without heat. The item # is 54140348S. This item is not listed on TSC website. I would recommend talking with your local Tractor Supply store. Speak with the manager and have them do a special PO order, through the store. You may have to have this item shipped via UPS, depending on the region you live in. Behlen Country provides product to TSC West of the Mississippi. Another Vendor provides product East of the Mississippi. If you are in this region, it will need to be a special order that ships by itself.5 years agoHelpful?
Q: Where does this stub out the wall at? High or low etc?
6 years ago1 Answer
- A: Hello, I have provided a link to the installation instructions for the Auto Stall Waterer below. You can bring your electricity through anywhere on the back of the unit. You can also bring it up through the PVC pipe as well, depending on the installation. Most bring electricity through the wall, around the mid-section of the waterer. https://www.behlencountry.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/70088-Auto-Stall-Waterer.pdf6 years agoHelpful?
Q: Does this run on 120 volts? If I use a GFCI box with standard female plug outside the stall do the black and white wires go to the male plug?
7 years ago1 Answer
- A: This is a 120v heating element. Most people wire the leads direct to power in the junction box provided. You can place a male 120v plug on the wires and plug it in to an outlet. Consult a licensed electrician to make sure you are within your State/City/County electrical codes when wiring the heating element.7 years agoHelpful?
Q: Does this product require an outlet in the stall? Does it have a cord?
7 years ago1 Answer
- A: The Automatic Horse Stall Waterer with Heat requires the Heating element to be wired to your power source. There are 2 wires, hot lead (black) and neutral (white). These will wire to your power. There is a Junction box for the connections and a ground screw for ground.7 years agoHelpful?

7 years ago1 Answer
- A: This is a complete waterer.7 years agoHelpful?
Q: Can the height of the waterer be reduced to allow smaller livestock to drink without damaging the unit?
7 years ago1 Answer
- A: No, the height of this unit cannot be reduced.7 years agoHelpful?

Automatic Stall Waterer Details
The Behlen Country Horse automatic waterer has a heavy wall one piece housing that includes the skirt (not removable) and has a radiant (infratherm?) heater that is located in the skirt. The bright green float cover is held in place by two sheet metal screws (threaded directly into both the cover and the plastic housing). The float is adequate, and the seal is a small rubber button, and should be considered a maintenance item. The water supply fitting (3/4 inch barb) is inside the skirt and requires the waterer to be removed to access.(no shutoff valve) The drain has a rubber stopper in the bowl, and the drain hose is inside the skirt. The Waterer is sturdy built and will probably stand up to horse abuse, but will require modifications to make service and cleaning easy. My rating is based on ease of adaption to my barn, and does not address performance.

The best horse waterer ever.

I love this horse waterer. It will last forever as it is heavy duty polymer body and the components can be replaced. It is the perfect height and was easy to install.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Behlen Automatic Stall Waterers

Decent Product for the price. 2 of the 5 I ordered had the float valve installed upside down, causing extra installation time & frustration trying to figure out why my new water system wouldn't work. Poor quality control from Behlen!
Yes, I recommend this product.
