Controlling carpenter bee damage is best done by preventing it in the first place and one way to do this is to use carpenter bee traps to kill the adult bees thus controlling their population. Carpenter bee traps rely on the fact that the bees will reuse empty holes if they can find them. If you watch a bee you will see that they will check out any dark spot on the wood surface to see if it is a hole. It is only if they can't find a pre-existing hole in a piece of wood, that the bees will drill new ones. Carpenter bee traps are often hollowed out pc. of wood or plastic boxes with open holes the bees can enter. Once the carpenter bees are inside the trap they find they cannot get out and will die.

Worked great, but a bee burrowed out...

I purchased this trap May 27th from Tractor Supply in my hometown. Between it and a glue trap, I quickly eliminated the carpenter bee situation on my barn and chicken coop. I go check it once in a while, and I noticed when I was mowing early this week that a bee had burrowed its way out in the front bottom corner of my trap. It made a path now for other bees to follow. I hoped for years of use from this trap not less than a month. Now they can just go out the in the bottom front corner. (Pictures attached) I have contacted the manufacturer... Waiting for their response. Worked great until the work of my escape artist.

Very effective

They work great when new, but like retail stores, location location location. In the second year they are still effective, but less so year three and beyond. They start to fall apart after 3 years, but better than my house falling apart from all the holes they drill in it. I have no problem with the hanger and have never had one blow off in the wind. They are expensive, but again, better than holes drilled in the house

Yes, I recommend this product.
