Q: Safe to feed flys to chickens can you feed the flies that you tracked to chickens? Is it safe for them to eat?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! Feeding trapped flies to chickens is generally acceptable, but you should only feed them dry flies, never the wet, rotting liquid mess at the bottom of the trap. While the insects themselves are a great protein source, the attractant and bacteria pose risks.

Love Them Around The Barn

Easy to use and mine refill with so many flies it's disgusting!!! I use around the horse barn including near the water trough to give the horses some sense of peace along with myself and these attract the flies away from the horses and fill up with flies. I have reused for three years now? maybe more and keep adding to my collection for more areas. Only fill to the line or you lose some of the capacity of catching them all. For those complaining about magots or such. . .use the disposeable bag versions, Use the Starbait, or toss some dirt or fill over the stuff you dumped out so nothing Flies up and away after you have dumped it.

Great Inexpensive Fly Traps

I have been using these fly traps for years. If not in the sun, they last for four or five years for me. They are super effective at trapping flies. The fly bait has improved over the years and is more attractive and less stinky than in the past.

Starbar Captivator Fly Trap

This container was placed outside 15 feet away from my house & was full within a week! Flies were constantly coming inside my home every time the door was opened to let my dogs out. It was driving me nuts! Now I can enjoy being in my kitchen w/o constantly holding a flyswatter. This fly trap is awesome! I recommend buying 2 so there's always an active trap bc the container needs to be closed when full to allow any remaining flies and/or larvae to die off- unless u want to dump it in another container w/a lid, which is stomach churning, to say the least. 😅
