Epic and gross

We got this for our new home, we couldn't take the flies anymore. I know it's a barn/livestock thing but we seriously couldn't even go outside, (still looking for the cause). I got it as a joke, thinking it was something, anything to try. Water, packet, hang, simple, okay. Within 10 min there was a standing inch of dead flies in there and more fighting to get in. I was amazed. We left if for a few days until it was FULL and I mean full. Before dumping it out. I need to get more mix for it, but I added water without rinsing and it is still attracting more flies to it. I am extremely impressed. We are getting more for around the chicken coop and yard area where we are finding them. I have to say though, the smell is a little bit more than just GAG but when something works this well, I am happy. Emptying it was gross too, but seriously, it works.

Not as ReUsable As They Want You To Think

This is not as "REUSABLE" as they want you to believe. The only way you can truely "Reuse" this is if you buy TWO and rotate them. If you only buy one and think you're just going to "Empty out the dead flys" and start over, THINK AGAIN. if you keep water in the container and do not let it dry out, you will continue to attract flies for about 30 days before the jar is too full and will not hold any more flies. At this point you'll have about half a jar of dead flies, some still live flies and about half a jar of maggot larvae ready to become more pesky flies. So if you just dump it out, you've defeated your entire purpose and have only created a fly breeding farm. The trick is to close it up for another 30 days and let the container dry out and all the larvae die inside the container while you use your 2nd jar to continue catching more flies. Then repeat for the remainder of the fly season. The real shame is that THIS SAME COMPANY (Starbar) makes a MILK JUGG TOP for use on regular milk jugs but Tractor Supply doesn't see fit to carry it. With the MILK JUGG TOPs we just save the old jug lid and screw it on quickly after removing the fly catcher top. Then we can just throw the jug full of flies and maggots away. WARNING; GET A NEW MILK JUG TO CONTINUE. DO NOT TRY TO REUSE THE SAME MILK JUG ONCE YOU'VE FILLED IT WITH FLIES. THE PLASTIC DOESN'T HAVE THE INTEGRITY NECESSARY TO STAY OUT IN THE ELIMENTS THAT LONG. About half way through your second month, the jug will become brittle and disinegrate right before your eyes. Then you'll watch all the flies come out madder than hell and set for revenge....and you'll never make that mistake again. As far as this jug is concerned, it might be adequate for a small appartment where flies are not too active. But it doesn't do much on acerage with 2 horses even with feed-through fly control. The other thing to consider is when it's time to buy more attractant. The cost of the attractant is almost as much as the jar and lid.

Worth its weight in gold!

We had flies everywhere and one this was put up they were all inside this wonderful invention! It got so full that there was no liquid left. I took it down, closed the lid for a few days to make sure everyone was dead, and then hurried the contents. We went back yesterday to get another and some refills.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Inexpensive Fly Traps

I have been using these fly traps for years. If not in the sun, they last for four or five years for me. They are super effective at trapping flies. The fly bait has improved over the years and is more attractive and less stinky than in the past.

Starbar Captivator Fly Trap

This container was placed outside 15 feet away from my house & was full within a week! Flies were constantly coming inside my home every time the door was opened to let my dogs out. It was driving me nuts! Now I can enjoy being in my kitchen w/o constantly holding a flyswatter. This fly trap is awesome! I recommend buying 2 so there's always an active trap bc the container needs to be closed when full to allow any remaining flies and/or larvae to die off- unless u want to dump it in another container w/a lid, which is stomach churning, to say the least. 😅
