The Water Saver 25 lb. Tall Fescue with RTF Lawn Grass Seed is a special blend of Turf Type Tall Fescues selected for superb color, texture, disease-resistance and mobility. It contains patented RTF (Rhizomatous Tall Fescue) Fescue for a deep rooting, self repairing lawn that fills in damaged or bare areas, while using less water to maintain a beautiful lawn. It grows great is sun or shade areas, and is excellent for use in transition climate zone, as well as the northern climate zone. This grass seed grows best in USDA hardiness zones 3-8. It covers up to 5,000 sq. ft. of area.

Quick and easy to get started

Quickly and easily germinated. As long as you keep the ground from getting dry this will continue to grow. I planted in early October and it took less than 2 weeks to germinate and it's now about an inch tall. Can't comment on saving water unfortunately but I've read that once fescue gets settled (it won't be until spring) it has a deep root structure and will be able to withstand drought pretty well. So far, I would definitely recommend this product especially if it does spread and saves water.

slow creeper, great texture

IMO, Rhizomatous Tall Fescue is the way to go. This is my second purchase; the first seeding was 2 years ago. I was very pleased. I have very little creep into my beds; it is easy to pull. The sprouts are only 2"-8" from the original; at this point the coverage is worth it. (It can scooch under my shallow rock border.) We have had a bad drought this fall and I have noticed alot of stress browning in the desert-like areas; however, if there was a little water or shade then the grass is great. I did also purchase a small bag of seed in a Tractor Supply store that had Rhizing Star RTF seed, so that may fit your need rather than waiting for 10 days for this to come from the packaging warehouse in Washington State. FYI, I froze my extra seed from 2021 and it germinated like a champ in 2023.
