Q: Why don't you remove the Carrageenan every thing I read tells me it is bad.

1 Answer
  • A: Carrageenan is widely used in pet foods and human foods such as sauces, cheeses, ice cream, baby foods, meat etc., as it provides good water holding and gelling properties. There are beliefs, unsubstantiated by scientific evidence, that carrageenan is "bad" for pets. However, carrageenan, an extract from edible seaweed, is an approved food additive for safe use as a thickening agent in pet food. It is referenced as an approved ingredient in the Association of American Feed Control Official Publication and the Code of Federal Regulations, 21 CFR 172.620. It should be kept in mind that there are multiple types of carrageenan (kappa, iota and lambda) used for different purposes. Carrageenan often gets confused with the degraded version called polygeenan, which is believed to be associated with potential GI tract issues. We do not use degraded carrageenan (polygeenan). We use the kappa version for its gel strength in our pet foods.

4Health wet cat food

A friend recommended this cat food so I tried it. Price wise, it was the same as Friskies. I liked the ingredients. Unlike Friskies it didn't have the fillers and my cats liked it.

Going to switch to another brand

My cats have been eating both the chick and the salmon flavors, although two of my cats get finicky about finishing, and try to eat around the veggies. Now that you've raised the price by 30¢ a can!! I'm just not feed them as much of this. Instead we'll do two nights of dry food, so I'm not spending more than I can afford, and I'm shopping around, and you'll lose my business for thos price gouging!!,😡

Keeping my two cats happy and healthy for 10+ yrs

We have been feeding our two guys this for nearly a decade and couldn’t be happier with the results! They free feed with the 4health indoor kibble in tiny amounts. But this is the majority of their diet. My guys are big boys! 11 and 14lbs, indoor only, and magically NOT in the overweight range, just big long bois. They are also incredibly picky eaters who change their minds about what they deem palatable every few weeks! Sigh…. We have overcome the problem by using this as their base food; wetting it down just a sqwoosh (they don’t like the firm pate) then adding a tiny amount (1/2 a small spoon’s worth to each plate) of high quality (Tiki, Dave’s, Salty Cat) appetite wetting topper mushed in on top. Works like a charm! It is definitely made of high quality ingredients, you can tell by the amount it requires to keep the cats full. When they ate the other “junk food” brands it would take almost 6oz each meal to keep them from feigning starvation halfway through the day… With this! We feed them 2.5oz and the .5oz of the topper with the splash of water and sometimes there’s a little leftover between meals. They do what they gotta do in their litter box without issue. It isn’t pleasant, but it isn’t nearly as foul as when they were on the “junk food” canned cat food. The kids are 12 and 13, just had their yearly check-up and they are healthy and happy! They are long, strong, and lean, their coats look fabulous. Had their urine, stool, and labs tested; everything came up aces. I heavily attribute their good health to their long history of eating 4health.

Yes, I recommend this product.
