Quick connect air fittings join air hoses, pneumatic tools and compressor connections with a plug-and-coupler setup. They let you change connections without threading and unthreading fittings each time.
The plug is the part that slides into the coupler. The coupler has a locking mechanism that holds the plug in place. Together, they form the quick connection between parts of your air setup.
The interchange profile describes the plug’s shape and the matching coupler design. Common profile names include industrial, automotive and ARO. Match the plug and coupler profiles when putting together your setup, since different profiles aren’t necessarily compatible.
Manual couplers generally require you to pull back the sleeve before inserting the plug. Automatic, or push-to-connect, couplers accept a matching plug when you push it in, without pulling the sleeve back first.
The end opposite the quick connection may have male threads, female threads or a hose barb. Threaded ends connect to matching ports or adapters, while hose barbs fit into compatible hose ends with an appropriate fastening method. The attachment style depends on your hose, tool or compressor connection.
