The Good, Bad & Ugly

I used this for several years doing heavy tree pulling before it broke. Here are my takeaways. Good: Plenty of power, good cable length, cable remained intact (no fraying). Bad: Unspooling is a pain. Even when you do it every day so know all the tricks, it’s still a clunky process - but you get used to it.  Ugly: the swivel hook pulley is too small (width) for the housing it sits in. There so much play in it the cable frequently gets trapped between the outer edge of the pulley & the inner edge of the housing. This requires disconnecting, prying the cable out, resetting everything & starting again. Major pain! Lastly, as you tighten the winch, the cable  doesn't move side to side as it should. Instead it spools one loop on top of the other, against one side of the housing. Once the cable stacks on top of itself 4-5 times, it finally falls off, causing it to slip backwards. It’s not really dangerous  since that’s only about a inch or so of cable that slips - but when you’re redirecting a leaning tree, that’s the last thing you need. But on its last use, it didn’t slip, so it bound itself up. That caused it to push a piece of metal on the back side out of place & trap it on the back side as well. I’ve been unable to fix it this time, and I’m pretty handy with repairs. All that said, this is still a better piece of equipment than the double pulley winches that use the power of a 2nd pulley to double its pulling power. The cables are thinner, so they fray. Dangerous! And by doubling the cable over to use the 2nd pulley for power, the cable length becomes too short for my needs. So I’ll be buying another of these and hoping to get a few years out of it. Rinse & repeat.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hard to set up, easy to use.

Works great, but it is difficult to unspool the cable to use, you need to put tension on it to get it out.

Had to return

I couldn’t get it to work. A piece was bent that kept it from being operational. The folks at Tractor Supply were very helpful and gave me a refund, without hesitation. Great store, great people.
