Better than the Tailgate Version

Works Better than the smaller tailgate version in terms of cooking around hot spots. Irrespective of the larger grate size, I still used only a small portion for 2 brats and 2 pork chops. I think the larger container size just allows better heat control. Con's 1) the coal grate has a larger opening. This makes it more difficult for using wood chips and having them fall through to the bottom. I still have the grate from the old smaller version, so I might try to utilize it. 2) The top vent barley covers the holes. You have to be very precise to put out the grill and even then, it still looks like a small amount gets through. Maybe they did this to prevent moisture build up, maybe a design flaw; not sure. 3) The catch Pan sits lose. It looks like it might snap in, but it does not. I guess it makes it easier for emptying but will likely fall off during transport. Overall, I'm excited to try indirect heat with wood chips for some ribs. My guess is, It will probably turn out well.

Yes, I recommend this product.

This is our 2nd Smoky Joe

After using our original Smoky Joe for many years and even replacing the grate, I finally bought my husband a new one for his 76th birthday. It has a great area to cook on and is solid and easy to clean. We are great fans of Weber Smoky Joes!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great portable grill!

The construction looks like it's well made and assembly was easy. It's very compact and fits nicely in our RV storage bin. I really like the way that the lid lock doubles as a lid holder. It would be nice to have some sort of handle on the bottom vent, but it's not hard to move it with a turner. I've enjoyed using it and look forward to many more cooks in the future.

Yes, I recommend this product.
