Q&As

1 - 10 of 29 Questions

Q: Would this wire be sufficient for cattle

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! A 171 ft. 9-gauge utility wire is not sufficient to act as a primary fence on its own to contain cattle. However, it is an excellent material for structural support. Its primary farm use is for bracing corner posts or tying/splicing thicker fencing wires.

Q: Same question as Tom (apparently not answered). Is this high tensile or low carbon wire?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Socks, the 171 ft. Utility and Brace Wire (9 Gauge) is typically a low carbon (soft) wire. It generally features a carbon content of around \(0.10\%\) to \(0.12\%\), which makes it soft, pliable, and easy to bend and twist by hand or with pliers when creating fence braces or tying bundles.

Q: Is this high tensile wire? Or low carbon wire?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! 9-gauge utility and brace wire can be either high tensile or low carbon. While a 9-gauge wire is generally considered to be in the high-tensile category, the specific product description is needed to determine if it is high tensile or low carbon. Low carbon wire is easier to work with but can be prone to sagging, while high tensile wire is stronger and more durable.

Q: is this wire bendable by hand? Or do you need a tool? I'm trying to find a strong but bendable wire to use with my termination insulators. My main electric fence wire is high tensile 12.5 gauge galvanized steel...way to difficult to bend around insulators

1 Answer
  • A: Hello Neighbor, This 9 wire may be equally as difficult to bend and require tools to accomplish your end goal.

Q: Can this be used as reinforcement in concrete? (Non-load bearing)

1 Answer
  • A: Hi FT11, Thank you for your questions. We had to reach out to the vendor on this one, and here is what they said, "We would need to know which application they are using it for to properly answer? Also are they using it to ty rebar or only using it by itself for reinforcement? I would only recommend it for tying rebar." Please feel free to reach out to them directly with your application type for further assistance. Their contact information is listed below. Overkill

I used this Heavy duty 9 ga. wire for bracing my wood fence posts. It was heavier than I needed. I could have used 10, 11, or maybe even 12 gauge wire. Nevertheless, it was fairly easy to work with and will outlast the wood posts. The gripples are also fantastic.

Easy to Work With Wire

I cut it into usable lengths and made a hoop from each length. Right now the hoops are supporting frost protection cloth in my garden. Really worked well and being galvanized, the hoops will last pretty much forever for repeated use. Easy to work with. Just the right amount of bend ability. I got 30 hoops out of the 171' roll.
