The Turf Sense 25 lb. Dense Shade Mix Grass Seed is a premium seed mix that grows and survives in areas of dense or partial shade to build a thick, green lawn that lasts. Use this grass seed to grow a beautiful new lawn or overseeding your current lawn. Additionally, this mix can be used to repair thinning areas and bare spots. The grass seed requires moderate watering after establishment and has a strong resistance against insects and disease. It covers up to 5,000 sq. ft. of area.

Q: Does this variety stay green year round

  • A: It does have some annual grasses in it to act as a nursery crop for the permanent year round grasses that will stay green year round.

Q: I’m looking for an alternative to this that works well in western NC for a mid to high shade area that is resilient and easier to maintain, would this work or is there something similar as it’s not recommended for our region?

  • A: You need at least 4-6 hours of filtered sunlight, if the area gets more than 6 hours you could potentially use a Sun & Shade labeled product.
