Q: If hung high enough, can chickens still get to it? Trying to keep them out of my emus feed!

1 Answer
  • Fair Game Group Product Expert
A: It really depends on how high the breed of chickens you have can jump. We dont really test them for these situations. I would think you would be able to hang it at a height that the chickens wouldnt find it and the emus could. Q: Can this be used as a dog feeder?

1 Answer
  • A: I'm sure it can. It is designed to be put on a pole or t-post.. Additionally, the open design in a natural environment could attract unwanted wildlife (raccoons, rodents, etc.) to your dog's food, creating hygiene issues and potential conflict. It is best to use a feeder specifically designed for domestic pets. This will ensure proper hygiene, controlled portions, and appropriate access for your pet.

Q: Can it be used as a feeder for medium sized goats?

1 Answer
  • Fair Game Group Product Expert
A: It would work for that with no issues as long as they dont try to climb up on it or eat the straps.

Q: How long if full on average does feed last

1 Answer
  • A: It will empty as fast as the animals can eat 70 lbs of corn through the opening. I wouldnt think its very likely since the deer dont usually stand there and eat for very long at a time. During the season, mine will usually last about 2-3 weeks.

Q: Will rice bran work with this feeder?

  • Fair Game Group Product Expert
A: You can use rice bran in this feeder. We do recommend mixing 50/50 with corn to help keep the rice bran from bridging.

Works for me

Overall I like it and it works fine. The good: Its solid and appears well designed. It just works reliably and there are no batteries, timers or actuators to deal with. Inexpensive. For the price you really cant beat it. Large capacity hopper. Easily adjustable feed rate. It was easy for me to assemble and only took 10 minutes with basic hand tools. Could easily be done in the field with a Leatherman and screw driver if needed. The not so good but not a deal breaker: The paint or powdercoating, the logo, the sight glass and the spring clips that hold the lid are highly reflective. Looks to be satin or semigloss. Although I'm not really trying to hide it per se, it does noticeably reflect sunlight and produces glare on the game cam IR flash. The 2 black straps also stand out. It would be much less so if the straps were green, brown or tan. I guessing that the coating was likely done this way for durability/corrosion sake. Solution for all of this-less than two minutes with a can of "dead flat" camo spray paint. I was satisfied enough to buy a 2nd one if that says anything. Simple solutions are often the best ones. It took a couple of weeks for the deer to get accustomed to it with straight corn. The second one I placed, I used the corn/roasted soybean/persimmon flavored corn mixed in. While I cant say scientifically that the higher value food caused better results they did hit that feeder much faster and harder than the other one. Depleted 80 pounds in a week. There is a happy medium somewhere in between but if you want them on it quick, I'd try what I used which is also available at TS. A little bit mixed with straight corn goes a long way.

Difficult Assembly

This feeder was very difficult to assemble. Directions were lacking details and clear illustrations. On the plus side, it is solid (heavy) and durable. It holds a lot of deer corn so I don’t have to refill it often. After 3 weeks of using it the deer have not taken to it. The Ring camera I have viewing it shows the deer are afraid of it and only eat the corn on the ground that the squirrels knock out while feeding. Hope that changes.

No, I do not recommend this product.
