The Toro 22 in. Gas-Powered 163cc 4-Cycle Briggs & Stratton Engine Walk Behind String Mower is the perfect all-terrain tool for making short work of your trimming and brush clearing tasks. In contrast to push mowers or hand-held trimmers, the walk-behind string mower is designed to help you go where mowers can't while eliminating the back strain associated with carrying heavy equipment. Built-tough features like a one-piece steel deck and heavy-duty nylon line ensure continuous results and make the experience of slicing through weeds and dense foliage quick, easy and satisfying. In addition to being tough, this mower is also convenient, utilizing large diameter wheels to keep you coasting around your property over uneven terrain and through thick grass and weeds. When the job is complete, you simply wheel the unit back to the garage and fold down the handlebars for easier storage.

For additional information on this product, please see the Product Documents section for all downloadable user manuals, installation guides, brochures and warranty statements.

  • Powered by a strong, yet quiet, 163cc 4-Cycle Briggs and Stratton engine
  • One-piece steel deck provides strength and stability while reducing vibration
  • Tool-less handlebar adjustment knobs provide compact storage and easy transportation while never-go-flat wheels ensure that your equipment is ready to go when you are
  • Setup is super simple with very little assembly required; simply unfold and tighten the handlebar knobs and attach the debris shield; also included in the box are starter strings for the mower head and 4-cycle engine oil
  • Toro is committed to providing a great product and an even better user experience, which is why the Toro Walk-Behind String Mower is backed by a 5-year limited product warranty and 2-year limited engine warranty
  • Handlebars fold down for easy, compact storage
  • Toro walk-behind string mower chops down your unsightly weeds and stubborn brush with ease
  • Large 14 in. wheels allow you to float through thick grass, weeds, brush and nettle
  • Super tough nylon line has a cutting swath of 22 to get the job done quickly

Toro walk behind trimmer

Initially I experienced the low power or no power head cutting speed a few folks complained with this purchase. After reading the manual and looking at the factory pictures ... I noticed the adjustment nuts were extremely loose and in the wrong position. After this was adjusted to the correct height and tightened..it has been cutting very well. Keep extra 0.155 trimmer line on hand.

JUNK !!! dont waste your money.

Went through the first set of strings in 15 min. Thought that was quick, but ok no big deal. Went to shut off to replace said strings and ground wire for kill switch was broke off. Replaced strings and used for another 20 min when it started slowing down and wouldn't spin at full power. Checked for grass build up or obstruction but nothing was there. Tried again and it stopped spinning completely after about 5 min. Returned to store for refund.

I bought this walk behind trimmer March 2025. I have used it approx 30 hours until Aug/25. I have had to replace the part that glides on the ground three times as they wear out making the machine unusable. I’m not running it on rocks or gravel. I have an acreage so the ground is mostly hard dirt with the odd rock. So not abusing it. But three bumpers in that amount of time is excessive. And expensive. Toro should take steps to thicken or harden the metal. I would look for another trimmer with a more robust bottom ground bumper and stay away from this model. It was not cheap to buy either.

No, I do not recommend this product.

One-pull start is best feature.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Every time I use the string mower, it starts the first time that I pull the cord. I have two acres of property and use the mower on just under an acre. It keeps on cutting through fairly thick and sometimes three foot tall brush and grasses with ease. I can't imagine going back to a weed-wacker type machine for my heavy-duty cutting needs.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought this string mower 3 weeks ago and the mow ball in the front wore out. Dealer is trying to find one for me but said its a wear part and may not be covered under warranty. I would think a Toro part would last longer.
