The tiller was well packaged and arrived in good condition. I loved how easy it was to assemble...basically just attaching the handles and it was ready. It was hard to start, requiring multiple pulls on the recoil starter assembly. If you have to shut it off after it has been running it starts up quickly, but cold starts are a different story. It took me a while to get used to the 2 cycle engine sound, which I associate with ultra light equipment such as chainsaws and string trimmers. But I did not think this affected the performance. I tried using the tiller with the depth bar but gave up. I was hoping it would just pull through the dirt with the tines, dragging it forward, but this was not the case. I had to manually move it from spot to spot. My garden soil has a high sand and organic content, so the tines had no difficulty churning through this dirt, but the layer of grass on top that I wanted to till into the soil proved to be the biggest problem. The grass runners invariably wrapped around the axles (L & R) and eventually stopped the tines from turning. This required me to stop the tiller and remove the grass before continuing. I liked the lighter weight that allowed me to put the cultivator into raised garden beds. And although it required a lot of manual effort to use, it was still way better and more effective that simply shoveling the soil, turning it over by hand. The design also allows you to get right next to the edges of the raised bed for thorough tilling.
