I had a Mantis rototiller that worked great when it ran.
I was skeptical that this could do as good a job but was surprised how well it worked.
It was as good as the Mantis. The battery lasted for over two hours and still had charge left.

Lacking power but works ok

I bought this in 2015. It has worked okay, but the power is lacking with the 40V motor. At the time they did not offer the 60v or 80v models. I have sandy soil but do have roots. It gets the roots tangled around the tines often so I have to stop every 10-15 minutes to take the tines off and pull all the roots out. Also, the clips holding on the tines fall off from time to time, so I replaced them with something better. Another complaint, is it does not except the newer batteries; they are too long, so the lid won't close. Also, Greenworks does not make replacement parts for any of their tools.

No, I do not recommend this product.

For performance concerns in sandy soil with roots, we recommend working in shorter passes and slightly dampening the soil beforehand, as very dry soil can reduce tine effectiveness and increase tangling. When encountering heavier root systems, slowing your pace and periodically clearing debris can help minimize buildup around the tines. It is also a good idea to routinely check that the tine clips are fully secured before use to prevent them from loosening during operation. Regarding battery compatibility, 40V batteries are interchangeable within the same platform, but physical design updates over time may affect fit with earlier models.
