Q: Will this work with rock salt?

2 Answers
  • A: Hello Jake. Yes, Scotts Elite Spreader will work with rock salt. However, we would suggest to remove the agitators by rotating them upwards and pulling them out. If you're using ice melt or smaller-grained rock salt, there is no need to remove the agitators.

Q: Would this spreader be good for leveling with sand

Q: Do I need to calibrate my new elite spreader? If so, how can I do it?Little info on Scott's website.

2 Answers
  • A: Scotts Elite Spreader cannot be calibrated and should not need to be. If you want to verify the spreader is still properly calibrated, you will need a 13/64 (.2031 inches) inch drill bit or #6 drill bit (.204 inch), which ever size you have on hand. Set the spreader to 3.5. With the control lever/trigger depressed the drill bit should fit snugly in the two openings closest to the center. If the spreader is out of the calibration we recommend it be replaced since it cannot be re-calibrated. Please reach out to our Consumer Services team at 888-270-3714 for assistance.

Great spreader/seeder. A leap above entry level

A well built and sturdy homeowner spreader/seeder. I like having two chutes and two dispersion wheels. The wheels and tires are substantial; not poor grade plastic. Set up time of 5 minutes was accurate. A really good deal for the cost and with proper use will last a significant period of time.

Scotts Guarantee is a Myth

Hopper slots are frozen and release handle doesn't work.  I've contacted Scotts 3 times, submitted two different case numbers and have been promised refunds but no action from Scotts.  Their guarantee is not truthful.  Avoid this product.

Worst Spreader Ever

Stay as far away as possible from this spreader. It last me less than one year and I only used it less than 6 times on a smaller yard. I bought this thinking it would last for a long time and it does not. The gates seized up and Scotts refuses to help with it. Stay away from any Scott's products.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I like the dual broadcast wheels. It has good coverage. Assembly was super easy and quick. And the all plastic design makes it easy to just hose off when done.

Great Value Over The Big Home Improvement Stores

I needed a salt spreader to replace my 15 yr old Scott’s spreader that succumbed to rust. I looked at TSC as well as the big home improvement stores. I purchased it from TSC after seeing it at TSC for $154.99 vs $186.00 at the home improvement stores. I went with Scott’s because my old one held up for many years and also after comparing it another spreader sold at TSC found Scott’s in made in the USA vs the other one which is imported. The spreader has not been used as of yet however all the parts work. I will be testing it out after I snow blow this weekend during the snow storm that will be hitting us and will update my feedback if necessary.

Yes, I recommend this product.
