We have had to take 3 of these back within a a couple days or less than 60 days after purchase. They do heat up but then the electronics/remotes go haywire and start an ear piercing screech and then the remote no longer has control of the settings. I can definitely see them being a safety hazard and they are very unreliable for a heat source of back up heater.

I am very pleased with the fireplace.
I have another one. However, the color is inaccurate. It appears a cherry or mahogany. It is much lighter than the picture. Also, much lighter color than the first one I ordered a few years ago. I ordered it for the health benefits provided by infrared heat.
