Q: Why is Liberty using soft steels like ASTM 1011 instead of higher tensile steels like ASTM 1018 or A36 which are twice as good at resisting cutting and prying/bending?
a year ago- A: Hi Manny, Thanks for your question! Liberty Safe uses ASTM A1011 steel because it offers an ideal balance of strength, formability, and weldability, which is critical in safe manufacturing. While higher tensile steels like A36 or 1018 do have stronger mechanical properties, they are significantly more difficult to form and work with, especially when producing the precise bends, welds, and tight tolerances required in safe construction. It’s also worth noting that the overall security of a safe depends on more than just the tensile strength of the steel. Liberty designs each safe as a complete system, factoring in door construction, lock design, bolt systems, and reinforcements to resist prying, drilling, and cutting attacks. The steel grade is chosen as part of that system for both performance and manufacturing consistency.a year agoHelpful?
Q: Hi, What grade of 12 gauge steel is used on this safe (is it SAE 1010)?

The 12-gauge steel used in this Liberty safe is ASTM A1011 Hot-Rolled Commercial Steel, Type B, which offers reliable strength and durability for long-term protection. While it’s not SAE 1010, this grade meets the high standards we set for structural integrity and safe performance.a year agoHelpful?
