Q: is there a time limit on how long to keep it plugged in?

1 Answer
  • A: You can leave the dipstick heater in overnight. An issue that may come up is leaving the extension cord out on ice, snow or rain. If you plug into a GFI system, this may cause the breaker to disconnect.

It's a joke

I removed the packaging and plugged it in to make sure it worked before I installed it. Within about two seconds it sizzled the skin on the inside of my fingers and I immediately unplugged it. I went ahead and put it in my Ford 8n and it didn't last the first night. I measured the depth of the oil in the oil pan, and it was right at 3 3/4". One wouldn't think 1/4" would have been enough to cause it to burn out on a 10-degree night but it did. This heater is a dangerous piece of junk. Save yourself some time, aggravation, and money, and pass on this product.

Worked once on tractor

I bought this to heat the oil in my tractor, gas Farmall 706. It's been around 0F or below for weeks and hoped this would help. It did, ONCE. Pulled it out and it was clearly working, next day, nothing. Day after, nothing. Put it in a vice in my basement and plugged it in. Not even warm. It's also very rigid and you're not supposed to bend it but it's impossible to get it to the oil pan without doing so. Even bent it worked the 1st time. Brought it back 3 days later and got full refund at Tractor Supply. I changed to oil to a lighter weight and that helped immensely, oil needed changing anyway. I also always keep a heat lamp on hydraulic filter to aid in cold starts.
