For such a simple device it is exasperating to use. The quail fill the dish with trash immediately. My huge issue is setting the level so as to not run dry till reservoir is empty. Once that tedious step is done and level is established you have to check it often because you can not trust it to keep working. Inverting the waterer usually splashes a quantity of water out making a mess with the bedding. Then, you have to back it off so only a single thread is holding it on. This is best done sitting on it site. Trying this airborne will end up dumping all your water out onto your birds etc.

It does exactly what is needed by providing drinking water SAFELY for tiny quail chicks. Since it is a standard regular size, any jar size with a regular mouth lid will fit. I opted to use a regular mouth pint jar, instead of the quart size since I only have a few birds.

This item is another one of those that is best for the brooder box and of course the chicks dirty it up with shaveings and food 5 minutes after putting in the box.

Use this smaller tray style for years raising baby chicks we raised baby chicks baby turkeys about a thousand a year and had excellent performance with these. It reduces the amount of water they spill on the bedding beneath it compared to the standard chick waterer.
