Great Soil for Raised Garden Beds!

As a beginner gardener, I was excited to get started with my new 4x8’ raised garden bed, and GroundWork Organic Raised Bed Soil has been a great addition to my setup! I mixed it with homemade compost and used the Hugelkultur method, layering it over old decaying logs and other natural materials, with cardboard lining the bottom of the bed.
The soil was easy to work with and blended nicely with my homemade compost. I like the organic-matter approach to building healthy soil, and combining the two gives me a good starting point for improving soil structure and supporting beneficial soil life. The mix has a nice, workable texture, and I’m hopeful it will provide good aeration for root growth while allowing excess water to drain properly.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how well the bed retains moisture and nutrients throughout the growing season. With the compost and decomposing wood underneath, I’m hoping the layered setup will help build long-term fertility while maintaining a good balance between drainage and moisture retention. I’ll be keeping an eye on pH as well, since maintaining a suitable soil pH is important for plants to access nutrients effectively.
The 1.25 cu. ft. bags were manageable to handle and mix, although filling a 4x8’ bed takes quite a few of them! As a beginner, I appreciate having a convenient starting point rather than trying to build the entire soil mix from scratch.
I’m still learning and haven’t had enough time to evaluate long-term nutrient retention, pH stability, or plant performance, but so far, I’m happy with my purchase. My only reason for holding back half a star is that the real test will be how the soil performs over time.
Overall, this is a promising option for raised-bed gardening, especially when combined with homemade compost and other organic materials. I’d recommend it to other beginner gardeners looking to establish a productive garden and build healthier soil over time. 4.5 out of 5 stars!

This soil is a nice rich black color out of the bag. It dries out to a dark brown and smells and looks great. Added it to my flower beds that are struggling in this heat.
