- A: The gauge of wire is not important. It is typical hardware cloth/wire you can find at almost every hardware store, big box stores included. #8 refers to the 1/8" pattern of the squares. This is what bee keepers look for because it will contain honey bees in a box but allow for the ventilation that they need. #8 not normally stocked in stores and has to be ordered.5 years agoHelpful?
