A: Yes, a solar panel can be added to this feeder. The unit is pre-wired for a solar panel, though you may need to drill a hole for the wiring and mount the panel to the barrel.

Q: Can you run birdseed through this feeder?

    1 Answer
    • Fair Game Group Product Expert
A: We do not test it for birdseed. The only feeds we have tested it for is corn. I dont see why it wouldnt work. The things you want to avoid are pellet type feeds. The absorb moisture and can clog the downspout.

    Good But Not Hog Proof

Love almost everything about this feeder. It’s heavy, is strong, it dispenses the corn evenly and thoroughly with no kernels left inside so once it’s empty it’s completely empty. The timer is super simple to set and the rechargeable battery is long-lasting. My only issue is height. It’s too short. The varmint cage prevents even the most clever squirrels and raccoons from accessing the spinner plate and corn. However it’s not hog proof. Hogs are crazy smart, and because they can be 400-plus pounds of mostly muscle, they have figured out how to jump slightly to head butt the underside of the whole motor/spinner/cage unit. This causes corn to come out and, in turn, uprooted the huge tent spikes we used to secure the feeder feet to the ground (as suggested in an online video), and over the feeder went. It hit the ground, the lid came off, and some corn spilled out. This startled the hog temporarily, but he came back to feast. I know all this from seeing the pictures our game camera took of the whole thing. We set the feeder back up and drove the stakes back down. He came back as the stakes were again loose. We’ve secured it three times now, but the soil is getting pretty loose so we’ll probably move it over a few feet and re-secure it. This will be an ongoing battle which might be remedied if the underside of the feeder barrel were 1-2ft higher and out of a hog’s reach.

This is a great feeder well-made the only flaw is that it’s a little bit too low to the ground so even having a steak down the hogs get underneath it, butt they their head against the underneath plate and literally knock it out of the ground and I had steaks that were like one foot deep half inch in diameter

    Solid feeder. Decent deal.

Solid feeder. Battery life is good. Not hard to assemble. Added the solar panel for the one in the sun. I'll add details on a review for that specifically but there was more tooling required than I initially anticipated but not a dealbreaker. The only thing that I have noticed is that every couple months I've needed to take the cage off and wipe it down so residue / corn don't get stuck on the bottom plate of the cage but completely reasonable. Just an FYI, not an actual issue. Have had no issues with raccoons etc.and there are plenty around.

    Yes, I recommend this product.
