Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product for keeping water from freezing We have several of these around our place. They are especially useful if you live in the southern states where temps can be in the 20's one day and 50's the next. We use them to turn heat on pipes and machinery. Since it cuts back off at 45', we save a bit of electricity. You need to keep an eye on them and have a spare. After a couple of years, they will begin to fail. It's a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Many Generators. Thermo cubes are great for connecting to the engine heaters that serve engine generators that are either mounted outside or are mounted in buildings--provided that these generators don't have to run HOSPITAL DUTY, where they have to start and assume load instantaneously; or diesel generators that are hard to start. Those type generators have to be kept hot all of the time. For many generator applications, it is fine to have the generator setup so that it runs for as much as a minute before assuming load. For those applications, the cube keeps the generator plenty warm enough to start in cold weather, and the generator can heat itself up sufficiently before taking load, that it does not need to be kept hot. The big thing the cube does is to prevent wasting electricity keeping the generator needlessly hot in the summer; causing the radiator hoses to soften and fail because they are constantly hot; causing the engine heater to fail prematurely because it is on all of the time; and causing the radiator to corrode out prematurely because it is constantly kept hot. I've personally seen many more instances of a generators failing because of constantly-not cooling system problems, than I have of generators not starting due to cold. Many manufacturers recommend that all generators be kept hot all of the time. In so many cases, that is not necessary and leads to more failures due to the implications of a constantly hot cooling system, than it solves. GIVE IT A TRY!
