Earth Science Earthworm Castings are 100% vermicompost and never contain fillers of any kind. Worm castings are a natural fertilizer full of organic matter that feeds the beneficial microbes in your soil. Worm castings improve your soil structure so it can retain more water and nutrients, leading to healthier plants. Earthworm Castings can be worked into the soil at the time of planting or can be used as a top dressing for shrubs, flowers, raised gardens or potted plants. Earth Science Earthworm Castings can also be used to make compost tea or be added to compost piles.

For best results, incorporate into the soil. Reapply every 3 months. For Potting Mix and Potted Plants Potting Mix: Blend 1 part Earthworm Castings to 4 parts soil. Potted Potted Plants: Add 1/8 to 1/4 inch Earthworm Castings to top of soil and water. Reapply every 4-6 months. For Compost Tea (Liquid Plant Food) Add 1 pound of Earthworm Castings to 5 gallons of chlorine-free water, soak overnight. Water plants with liquid. Evenly spread over soil For Compost Pile Spread a 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick layer of Earthworm Castings between each new layer of material to be composted.

Q: Would this be recommended for pots, specifically, chestnut seedlings?

1 Answer
  • A: Captain Chestnuts, Absolutely! Earthworm Castings are an excellent soil supplement for plants and seedlings of any kind. They will significantly improve the soil structure in your pots by adding rich organic matter which will encourage root growth, increase water and nutrient holding capacity and improve overall plant vigor. Thanks for reaching out to us! Good luck! PS...I took a fascinating Forest Biology course at UGA under Dr. Scott Merkle that focused heavily on his work on restoration of the American Chestnut. Keep those chestnuts coming!

Seems good enough; without an analysis it's hard to know how good it really is. I'll never know what effect it has on the plants but it seems okay.
