Doxepin HCL is used in cats and dogs to treat anxiety-related disorders, noise phobia, and depression, as well as canine obsessive-compulsive disorders such as acral lick dermatitis. Doxepin HCL capsule works to block dopamine receptors in their central nervous system, offering calming relief. Available in 10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg strengths of Doxepin HCL capsules for pets.How it Works
Doxepin works to block receptors of dopamine in the pet's central nervous system.
Special Precautions
- Use with great caution in seizure-prone animals.
- Other medications and foods may interact with Doxepin. Always speak with your veterinarian before beginning anything new.
- Never use tick and flea collars or feed your pet aged cheese while administering Doxepin. These may lead to toxicity or even death.
- Keep out of reach of animals and children.
Contact your closest emergency pet hospital.
Side Effects
While Doxepin has a lower risk for adverse cardiac effects than several other tricyclic medications, some cases of ventricular arrhythmias have occurred, especially following an overdose. It can also lead to lethargy, gastrointestinal distress, or excitability. Other adverse reactions may occur. Notify your veterinarian if your pet exhibits any unusual behavior or side effects after Doxepin treatment.
Storage
Store at temperatures between 68° - 77°F
Tips
If you forget to administer a dose, give it as soon as you remember and wait the usual amount of time between doses. As an alternative, you can skip the missed dose and give it at the next regularly scheduled time, then return to the usual dosing schedule. Never administer two doses at one time or administer extra doses.
