Q: How much copper proteinate per a cup?

2 Answers
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. All of our formulas meet both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) guidelines and are complete and balanced. We are dedicated to offering nutritious and safe pet foods that comply with all federal and state regulations. A balanced diet includes trace minerals such as copper, which are essential for growth and maintenance. AAFCO requires a minimum amount of copper in pet food: 12.4 mg/kg dry matter (DM) for growth and reproduction, and 7.3 mg/kg DM for adult maintenance, amounts that our foods do provide.

Q: I have a 150 pound mastiff that turned 7. I don’t see this labeled large breed. Does this support a giant breed or do you have another recommendation under your brand 4health

  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. While we do not have a large breed senior-specific formula, our Diamond Naturals Senior Dog Formula and both of our Diamond Naturals Large Breed Adult Dog formulas meet the nutritional needs of large breed senior dogs. These formulas also contain higher levels of guaranteed glucosamine and chondroitin than our regular adult dog formulas to help support joint health. If you’re interested in receiving a personalized formula recommendation for your furry friend, please contact our product specialists by visiting dpf.pet/contact-us. We hope this helps!

Q: At what age is senior

  • A: Hello, thanks for your question. There is not a set age that dogs are considered senior — it is different for each dog based on their size and breed. We recommend consulting with your veterinarian to help determine the best diet for your dog, based on their needs.

Q: how many cups should I use when also adding in food toppers. (my dog is 96lbs)

1 Answer
  • A: Thanks for reaching out! According to our feeding guide, which can be found on the back of the bag or at dpf.pet/senior-dog, a 96 pound dog may eat around 5 2/3 cups per day. These guides are offered as starting points to determine the right amount to feed your pet. Feeding amounts can be adjusted based on the age, breed and activity level of your pet, as well as additional food such as toppers. It’s important to monitor the total calories (including toppers) to ensure you're not overfeeding. As always, we encourage you to work with your veterinarian to determine an appropriate calorie intake for your dog.

1 Answer
  • A: Hello and thanks for your question. There have been no recent recalls on any of our formulas. Out of an abundance of caution, Diamond Pet Foods had a voluntary recall in 2012 due to potential product contamination. However, further product testing revealed that no Diamond Pet Food product was contaminated. We are committed to product safety and quality, which is why we adhere to stringent and scientifically advanced food safety protocols. We test and monitor our manufacturing process: pre-production, production, and post-production. To learn more, please visit our website at https://dpf.pet/quality-assurance.

Q: Would this be a good food for a 14 year okd german shepherd lab mix? He loves the diamond natruals beef meal formula but seems to have increased gas and softer stool since switching to Diamond from Iams. Ive been told its the grain sorghum causing issues.

  • A: Thank you for reaching out. Diamond Naturals Senior Dog Chicken, Egg & Oatmeal Formula could be a good fit for your dog. It is formulated with carefully determined protein and fat to meet the needs of aging dogs and does not contain grain sorghum. We are sorry to hear your dog is having a problem with gas. There can be many factors that contribute to gas production, including consuming food too fast and swallowing too much air, intolerance to certain ingredients, and/or a possible disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. We recommend that you consult with your veterinarian if you feel your pet's gas is excessive.

Typically, there’s no cause for concern for slow eaters as long as they are eating an appropriate amount and maintaining a healthy weight. Depending on the dog, they may prefer certain flavors over others. However, a change in eating habits could be the first indication that there is a medical condition, such as something causing pain in the mouth. We suggest contacting your veterinarian if your dog is not eating like you think they should be. diamondpet
