Q&As

1 - 2 of 2 Questions

Q: How well does cut brush. Up to what height?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello Vazcocorp. The Cub Cadet ZTXS4 54 is a Zero Turn Mower intended to cut grass and leaves. It is not intended to cut brush. Also, in extreme situations, you should never normally attempt to mow grass that is more than 10 inches tall. Attempting to drive through grass higher than this limit can severely overload the cutting deck, cause excessive engine temperatures, and lead to permanent engine or deck damage. Thank you for your question.

Great Mower, except for the ergonomics

The ZTXS4 mower has done a great job mowing an acreage with slopes that far exceed Cub Cadet's recommendations. There's plenty of power in the Kohler engine to go up these slopes which adds confidence in the product. Servicing (oil/filter change, greasing, air cleaner) is easy. I like the big gas filler tube which reduces the chance of spilling when refueling. The seat is comfortable. I gave it only four (4) stars because of little things that could be remedied by Cub Cadet. First, the operator's manual is written in tiny font that is not easy for senior citizens to read. Make the print bigger, please! Second, the ergonomics on the mower aren't good. The forward drive pedal is adjustable for cant, but there is no mention of that in the operator's manual. I found it by accident. The spring on the pedal is too strong. Lots (too much) force is necessary to push the pedal, especially for a senior citizen. The reverse pedal requires the foot to be on top of the pedal to push it down. It's too high off the platform. It should push forward like the other pedal. Granted, I ordered the mower online and didn't take it for a test run at the dealer. I encourage any prospective buyers to try it out first and see if the ergonomics work for them.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very pleased with this mower. Purchased it for its reputation on slopes. It has delivered. What used to take 10 hours to mow and weedeat, I can finish in 3 hours with very little weedeating to do.
