- A: Per the manufacturer, No, Purple Power is not recommended to clean cast iron cookware. Cast iron should be cured in a very specific way before first use and then every so often. In between cures it should only be washed with either water or mild soap and water and heated just until it is dry. You shouldn’t use any harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools on it. You want the oils and fragrances from the foods that you cook in it to seep into the cast iron so that it gets better over time.6 years agoHelpful?

I bought this stuff to remove some Cosmoline packing grease from an old ordnance item, and in short, after three days in this stuff circulating in a parts washer with an occasional hour+ of scrubbing, ended up using some contaminated gasoline and finished the job in half an hour or so. I poured the purple power back into its jugs and I'll try it later in a power washer, but it was absolutely useless for this application.
No, I do not recommend this product.
