Heirloom. This stringless snap bean matures early and offers superior flavor, color, texture and ease of picking. A bush variety, it does not need staking. The beans are long and straight. Excellent steamed or used in salads. Originally developed as a canning bean, but it soon grew to be a fresh favorite, too. Its predecessor, Blue Lake pole bean, is also an heirloom and has been around since the early 1900s. Blue Lake Bush was developed from Blue Lake pole bean in 1961. Very productive. Resists bean mosaic virus. Produces most of its harvest within a few weeks, leaving time for a second crop or a vacation!

Bushels of Bush Green Beans

I always buy 10 or 15 plants at one time. I plant them in late March, & by late April / early May, I have bushels wonderful, crisp, fresh greens for cooking, canning, and freezing. No need to stake or trellis these. They yield in abundance from May to early August. I had 10-gallon-sized Ziploc bags full in my deep freezer by the end of Fall 2017. And I'd sautéed plenty fresh with shallots & garlic.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hardy Plants

2017 was a tough year to garden in my part of Minnesota. Even after a crop destroying hail, my Blue Lake Bush beans survived and provided a bountiful harvest of delicious beans. This is the bean I've planted for the last 10 seasons and I will not hesitate to plant them again.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I tried growing these beans for the first time. They required little maintenance. I had an aphid attack but was able to rid them with a garlic and onion solution. They have produce an abundance of beans that are juicy and flavorful raw.

Yes, I recommend this product.
