Ampicillin is an antibiotic prescribed for dogs and cats to treat a variety of infections, including respiratory tract, skin, urinary tract, gastrointestinal, and soft tissue infections. It is also used in horses for respiratory tract, skin, and soft tissue infections, and in cattle for respiratory tract infections.. Ampicillin works to kill bacteria because it prevents them from constructing cell walls as they grow. This occurs through inhibition of peptidoglycan chain linking. These are primary components in gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria within cells.

Side Effects

The following adverse reactions may occur in the first few days after initiating treatment:
