Edible Plant Lifespan

  • Annual Edible Plants: Flourishing within a single growing season, annual edible plants such as tomatoes, cilantro and snap peas offer bountiful harvests. For best results, make sure that these plants receive adequate sunlight, well-drained soil and regular watering to enjoy abundant yields.

  • Perennial Edible Plants: With longer lifespans, perennial edible plants such as asparagus, strawberries and thyme return year after year, providing a longer-lasting food source. These plants grow best in locations that have proper drainage and sunlight exposure.

Sunlight Requirements for Edible Plants

Full sun edible plants such as tomatoes and peppers require six to eight hours of direct sunlight daily. Partial sun/shade edible plants such as lettuce and radishes thrive with four to six hours of sunlight along with some shade. Shade-tolerant plants such as kale prefer two to four hours of indirect sunlight.

Experience the joy of growing your own food with our selection of edible plants. From fresh fruits to nutritious vegetables, we have something for everyone. Start planting today and visit Tractor Supply to begin your gardening journey!
