Choosing a full brim safety hard hat starts with the hazards on your job and the protection requirements for your workplace. Check the helmet’s ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 markings: Type I addresses impacts to the top of the head, while Type II addresses impacts to the top and sides. Electrical classifications matter, too, so match the hard hat’s class to the task rather than judging protection by its shape or appearance. A proper fit helps a full brim hard hat stay in position as you move through the workday. Follow the manufacturer’s sizing and suspension adjustment instructions so the helmet sits securely without pinching or slipping. For farm work and outdoor construction, also consider how your head protection fits with the other safety gear the job calls for, including eye protection, hearing protection and face shields.
