ANSI Z87.1+ Rated Safety Glasses

ANSI Z87.1+ rated safety glasses help protect your eyes from flying particles while you tackle jobs around the farm, shop or jobsite. Whether you’re cutting lumber, drilling metal or handling other tasks that send chips and debris into the air, choosing eye protection suited to the hazard matters. ANSI Z87.1 is the American National Standard for occupational and educational eye and face protection, and the Z87+ marking identifies eyewear that meets the standard’s high-impact testing requirements. Those requirements include high-velocity and high-mass impact tests, which set high-impact safety glasses apart from basic-impact eyewear. Look for the applicable markings on the eyewear and check the manufacturer’s specifications rather than judging protection by appearance alone. Wraparound safety glasses or models with side shields provide side coverage, but the right choice depends on the work in front of you. High-impact protection does not automatically mean the glasses also protect against fine dust, chemical splashes or every type of optical radiation. A good fit makes ANSI Z87.1+ safety glasses easier to keep on throughout the workday. Look for protective eyewear that sits securely on your nose, stays in place as you bend and turn, and works with any hearing protection, hard hat or respirator your task requires. Anti-fog safety glasses can help maintain visibility during sweaty chores or temperature changes, while scratch-resistant lens coatings help limit surface wear without making lenses scratchproof. Clear lenses are a common choice for indoor work, and tinted safety glasses can reduce brightness outdoors; check the stated UV protection separately, since the Z87+ marking alone does not establish a UV rating. If you wear prescription glasses, consider properly rated over-the-glasses eye protection or prescription safety eyewear. For grinding and other work with substantial flying-debris hazards, a face shield may also be necessary over safety glasses or goggles.
