Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs to air out A good, sturdy tarp. The biggest downsides are the smell of the chemicals used for waterproofing and/or fireproofing, and the yellow residue it leaves on anything it touches (wear gloves when handling - not sure if it stains yet). Hang this thing up outside to air out for a few days at least, and consider hosing it down to reduce the residue it leaves.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof, Not Water-resistant This is a heavy and durable canvas tarp, well constructed and with sturdy grommets. But it is NOT water resistant and NOT waterproof. Even after applying 32-oz can of ScotchGuard it still leaked through the weave. If your goal is to shed water, you are better off with two layers of (folded) poly tarp. Other than that is was a decent buy at the price but not a great buy. Why would the vendor sell a protective product like this and neglect to make it water resistant?

Will it melt if it comes into contact with a hot object?

Yes. The canvas tarp is not made with a fire retardant material and the coating will melt when in contact with hot objects.
