The DR Power Equipment Pro 18 in. Rear-Tine Rototiller is a top-of-the-line, walk-behind rototiller that gives you the convenience of dual-tine rotation, allowing you to easily switch between forward and counter-tine motion. For tilling or cultivating in established gardens, go with forward rotation. Switch to counter-rotation for sod-busting or loosening compacted soil. Either way, the self-propelled, tractor-style wheels pull the DR PRO XL Rototiller along, making the job easy on you. The drag stake provides extra resistance and can be raised and pinned in place when not needed. It features an 18-in. tilling width and up to 11-in. tilling depth.

  • Dual-tine rotation lets you switch between forward- and counter-rotation, providing the right mode for the job at hand
  • Simple lever adjustment is at your fingertips
  • Tractor-style, pneumatic tires (13 in. x 5 in.) propel the rear-tine rototiller forward easily in almost any terrain
  • Switch to neutral gear for free wheel performance
  • Drag stake provides extra resistance and can be raised and pinned in place when not needed
  • Debris shield and side walls protect the DR PRO XL Rototiller operator from thrown soil
  • 9.50 ft-lb. gross torque (209cc), OHV engine and chain drive transmission
  • 18-in. tilling width and up to 11-in. tilling depth
  • Ten 11-in. tines

Decent Performance in Soft Soil

I purchased the DR Power Equipment 18 in. 209cc Pro Rear-Tine Gas Rototiller hoping for a durable machine that could handle a variety of soil conditions. In sandy or loose soil, it performs reasonably well and gets the job done without much effort. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives mostly end. In harder, compacted soil, the tiller struggles and doesn’t have the strength or durability I expected from a “Pro” model. Within minutes of my first use, both the depth bar and drag bar were bent, which was extremely disappointing and raised concerns about the overall build quality. The engine also sounds cheap and underpowered compared to other tillers I’ve used. It runs, but it doesn’t inspire much confidence in long-term reliability.

Thank you for sharing this detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear the tiller performs well in loose and sandy soil, but we’re sorry to hear about your experience in tougher conditions.
The DR Power Equipment 18 in. Rear-Tine Tiller is designed for a range of soil types, including compacted ground, so bending of the depth bar and drag bar during initial use is not expected. It’s important the unit is adjusted properly for harder soil—starting at a shallower depth and making multiple passes can help improve performance and reduce strain on components.
Regarding engine sound and power, the unit is equipped with a 209cc engine intended to deliver consistent performance, though perceived power can vary depending on soil density and operating technique.
We’d recommend reaching out to DR Power Equipment Customer Support at 1-800-687-6575 so they can review the condition of your machine and assist with next steps, including inspection or replacement of affected parts if needed. Generac
